GivingTuesdayNow inspires Canadians to participate in global day of unity and generosity

OTTAWA, May 4, 2020 – As a part of a global initiative, the Rideau Hall Foundation (RHF) and CanadaHelps are asking all Canadians to show their generosity on Tuesday, May 5 during GivingTuesdayNow to aid in the response to the COVID-19 crisis.

GivingTuesdayNow is designed to drive an influx of generosity in support of communities and non-profits in Canada and around the world. It is a call to action for citizens of the world to come together in a moment of unity and give back in this time of crisis in any way they can.

“Generosity is a powerful way to fight feelings of isolation and loneliness that many Canadians are experiencing right now,” said Teresa Marques, President and CEO of the Rideau Hall Foundation.  “GivingTuesdayNow is an occasion for our country to come together and support what matters most to us as individuals, Canadians and global citizens. I encourage all Canadians to rally on this global day of action and show ourselves as a nation who comes together in times of difficulty to help and give hope to one another.”

“Across the country and around the world, we are all coming to terms with the effects of this pandemic. Caring for each other and giving back to our communities is one way we can build our resilience in a crisis,” said Marina Glogovac, President & CEO of CanadaHelps. “Generosity crosses all our divides and unites us in our shared humanity.”

GivingTuesdayNow will mobilize GivingTuesday’s global network of leaders, partners, communities and generous individuals around a unifying theme: TOGETHER WE GIVE, STAND, HELP, THANK, HEAL…

Canadians are asked to participate in GivingTuesdayNow by showing their generosity in various ways:

  • Donating to their favourite local, national or international charity and sharing their giving stories
  • Volunteering to help neighbours and community members, while practising safe physical distancing
  • Putting up colourful artwork in the windows of their homes, making inspiring sidewalk chalk art
